I usually avoid posting content I’m sure will end up on every other damn blog, just because I figure what’s the point if everyone is going to see it everywhere else. But I had to post Keri Hilson‘s latest video for her new single, “Pretty Girl Rock,” off her upcoming sophomore album, ‘No Boys Allowed‘ – out Dec. 21st – album art above.

In the video Keri portrays various ‘Pretty Girls’ who rock over the past decades of music (from Diana Ross to Janet). This reminded me how much fun music videos can be, and how they can really bring a song to life. You don’t need a huge budget or CGI special effects, just a cute concept and great director (shout out to Joseph Kahn who directed this video – his vids are usually pretty iconic).

Besides the issue with the mic at first, Keri’s performance was cute and she looked dope. The party was a blast and shout out to the whole CL team, especially Brian and Angel, who inspired me to start TheWaitingRoom – Congrats guys!

“Breaking Point” by Keri Hilson has been floating around the net for a few days now, but I didn’t post it immediately for two reasons; one – prior to her debut album dropping so many songs leaked that no one was really sure what was a single, what was on the album, or what wasn’t anything at all. Two – I honestly wasn’t feeling this song at first.

Well, some songs are growers. This is one of those songs. I’ve had the song in heavy rotation on my iPod now since Thursday. And to solve the first issue, the song, produced by Timbaland, has been officially deemed Keri’s first single off her upcoming sophomore album, ‘No Boys Allowed,’ out later this year.

We live in a culture where news of men cheating is nearly expected, but seldom do we hear the story the other way around. In her track “Tell Him The Truth”, singer-songwriter Keri Hilson isn’t afraid to go there. Even lamenting her own dilemma; telling the man she loves that she’s been unfaithful, somehow we feel bad for her. Relating to the torment in her vocals, Keri’s sincerely vulnerable lyrics even convince us, just for a second, that maybe she shouldn’t tell him the truth – or should she? A sad and humbling tragedy that makes for a remarkably affective song.
